School caretaker Ian Huntley was convicted of the murders but it was far from an open-and-shut case, as Roger Corke discovered when he and his team looked at the case for a Channel 5 documentary, 5 Mistakes that Caught a Killer.

Roger's team found new witnesses, never interviewed on TV before. They included former police special constable Sharon Gilbert. She told the astonishing story of how the murderer, Huntley, approached her whilst she was helping to search for the girls and asked searching questions about DNA. Sharon was so suspicious that she told detectives and they arrested Huntley soon afterwards.
